In March, the annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index rose to 2.7%, up from 2.5% in February.

Data from the National Statistics Office released today revealed that the largest contribution to the overall annual inflation was measured in the food index (+0.77 percentage points), largely due to the higher prices of take-aways..

The highest annual inflation rates in March were registered in housing (5.9%) and other goods and services (4.7%).

The lowest annual inflation rates were registered in clothing and footwear (-3.4%) and water, electricity, gas and fuels (0.0%).

The only downward contribution to the overall annual inflation was registered in the clothing and footwear index (-0.22 percentage points), mainly reflecting lower prices of garments, the NSO said.

The 12-month moving average rate for March stood at 2.5%.
