Jum it-Tragedja will be remembered on Sunday, the 25th of October, at the memorial to the tragedy situated in Zewwieqa, Mgarr and will a commemorative Mass to be celebrated aboard a Gozo Channel ferry, starting at 9am, organised by Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo.

This was the greatest tragedy in Gozo after World War II, and occurred when notwithstanding severe weather conditions, a luzzu tried to make the crossing from Marfa to Gozo, carrying twenty-seven people on board, among whom were two policemen, a woman and two members of the crew.

This crossing came to an abrupt end when the boat overturned close to Hondoq ir-Rummien bay, only four of the passengers survived by swimming to shore. One of those four who made it ashore, Karmnu Attard, went to the village of Qala to call the police at Mgarr, informing the authorities about the accident.
