In March, provisional data shows that the index of industrial production increased by 10.2 per cent over February and by 3.8 per cent over the corresponding month of 2009.

Monthly comparison

When comparing March 2010 with the previous month, the index of industrial production increased by 10.2 per cent to 103.9 points. All the main industrial groupings, except the durable consumer goods, registered an increase in production. The production of intermediate goods, energy, capital goods and consumer goods rose by 7.5, 6.4, 5.8 and 15.2 per cent respectively. The rise in consumer goods was attributed to a 17.4 per cent increase in the production of non-durable consumer goods.

Annual comparison

Year-on-year data revealed that industrial production rose by 3.8 per cent, from 100.1 points in March 2009. This rise was attributed to an increase in the production of intermediate, capital and consumer goods which rose by 6.5, 1.4 and 3.3 per cent respectively. On the other hand, energy and durable consumer goods declined by 3.5 and 6.1 per cent respectively.
