The stories covered in this weeks issue are:
1. The Catholic Action Movement celebrated Wucwo Day at its Headquarters in Victoria. After an introduction by Netta Camilleri (Council President), the hymn “Queen of Peace” was sung and then Bishop Mario Grech concelebrated Mass with Mgr Carmel Hili (Diocesan Ecclesiastical Assistant), Fr George Vella, Mgr Francis Debrincat and Can Eddie Zammit. Rita Xuereb and Theresina Cauchi were lectors, while Kitty Xerri led the singing.
In his homily, Mgr Grech empasised that women should educate heart and spirit, an essential role in society. At the end, the Magnificat was sung and a special prayer from the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations was recited.
The second part of the programme was led by Dar Guzeppa Debono director Maria Attard who explained the profound meaning of peace: the process formed of personal experiences. She then introduced a separated person who talked about her long healing process and the suport she received.
The National Anthem concluded the activity.
2. Gozo College Victoria Primary School organised a car wash in Saint Augustine Square Victoria. Year 6 pupils took part in the activity. This event was possible thanks to Victoria Local Council and the local police. The Year 6 teachers and the School Management Team lent a helping hand.
3. Jason Camilleri, accompanied on piano by Shirley Helleur, gave a Trumpet Recital, “Treasures for Trumpet,” at the Exhibition Hall, Gozo Ministry.
The opening piece was the well known “Trumpet Tune” by Henry Purcell followed by Joseph Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto.”
The programme continued with Flor Peeters “Sonata,” Herbert L. Clarke’s “Sounds from the Hudson” and concluded with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Concert Rondo.”
The recital was extremely well presented showing excellent interpretation, technical ability and obvious enjoyment of the music by both performer and accompanist.
4. Young artist and fellow colleague Paul Falzon presented retiring senior court marshal Joe Xuereb with the latter’s portrait, at a farewell dinner in Xlendi, Gozo, attended by the Gozo Courts Staff and their Director, Dr Mary DeBono Borg.
