Mario Sepi, outgoing President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), is in Malta on the invitation of Sonny Portelli, for two days so as to meet the MCESD council members, the Civil Society Committee and the Gozo Regional Committee.

The outgoing President gave an overview of the work he has carried out during his mandate and gave particular praise to the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development for its valid contribution during his presidency. Mario Sepi quoted Sonny Portelli’s (MCESD Chairman) specific input in drawing up the proposals of the European National Councils position on the Lisbon Strategy, now the EU2020.

Malta was the first Member State Mario Sepi visited at the beginning of his mandate and he decided that it would be the last one he visits in his current capacity.

Mario Sepi is also launching the book “La Nuova Favola Della Fattoria”, which he co-wrote with Anna Maria Darmanin, Vice President Designate of the EESC. This book, intended as the sequel to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, depicts the animal life in a capitalist society faced by the economic, social and environmental crisis. Furthermore it highlights the role the citizens have in ensuring that policy and politics are truly related to the needs of society in general.
