Christmas is soon coming and for many people this time means joy and pleasure. Yet Christmas does not mean joy, entertainment and gifts for everyone. For those people amongst us who are presently in a situation of poverty and / or social exclusion, this festive season may be slightly different; where wishes possibly can never turn into reality.

The National Youth Council is going to organise a conference entitled “Christmas in Poverty?” which will take place on Monday, the 20th of December, at Europe House at Valletta. This conference starts at 9.30am with the opening of Hon C. Puli and ends at 12.30pm.

The aim of this conference is to discuss poverty and social exclusion and also to create awareness about the fact that although it is Christmas time, the situation of poverty is still there and the individuals who are in this situation are still finding it very difficult, especially at a Christmas characterized by consumerism.

Therefore, for this conference several guests are invited to speak about poverty and social exclusion from different aspects. Then a debate between experts and those present will follow. Among the guests there will be MPs, Mr. Anthony Girard from Caritas Malta, the Commissioner for Children Mrs. Helen Damato, Mrs. Connie Magro from the Malta Mental Health Association and several other guest.
