The stories covered in this weeks issue are:
1. Xaghra remembered the late Bishop Emeritus Mgr Nicholas J Cauchi with concelebrated Requiem Mass led by Bishop Mgr Mario Grech at Maria Bambina Basilica. Concelebrating with the Bishop were the late Bishop’s brother Canon Achilles Cauchi, his personal Secretary Fr Renato Borg, Xaghra Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo and members of the Collegiate Chapter and Clergy of Xaghra. The congregation was led by the late Bishop’s brother and two sisters and a nephew.
2. More than 40 people donated blood at Nadur council. Tony Micallef, staff nurse at the Blood Donation Centre, said Gozitans always donated whole heartedly and there were many regular donors on their list. All those who would like to donate blood should call at the Gozo General Hospital from Monday to Saturday between 8.30 and 11.30 a.m.
3. The annual philatelic exhibition by the Gozo Philatelic Society (GPS) was held at the exhibition hall of the Gozo Ministry. The title chosen for this year was ‘People and Peoples’. At this year’s exhibition there were three competing classes – the postal history class and the social philately class (for adult participants) and the third class, entitled ‘People and Peoples’, open to adult as well as junior participants. Around 20 junior members took part.
4. Malta Post plc also participated in this year’s exhibition. It commemorated the event with the use of a special hand-stamp. Visitors had the opportunity to acquire a set of five commemorative cards and another special sheet of five different personalised stamps, which the society prepared to mark this year’s exhibition.
5. The third edition of Bethlehem f’Ghajnsielem was inaugurated by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at Ta’ Passi. The St Joseph Band played Christmas carols at 10th December Square, while animators entered the nativity village in a pageant-style procession. Dr Gonzi was shown around the village by Ghajnsielem mayor Francis Cauchi and project manager Franco Ciangura. The village will remain open until January 2. It will be animated on all weekends and public holidays.
