AFM enlisting female soldiers for the Regular Force

The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) are enlisting female soldiers to serve on the Regular Force. After their basic military training course, successful recruits will be assigned to 1st Regiment AFM, and tasked to perform security duties at ‘A’ (Airport Security) Company in connection with access control procedures at the Malta International Airport (MIA). Amongst their other tasks, female soldiers’ duties include the security frisking of females entering restricted areas within Luqa Airport.

On enlistment, the AFM recruits will be placed on salary Scale 16 with an initial salary of €10,755. They will then proceed to salary Scale 15 after two years of service, and to salary scale 14 after four years. Enlisted personnel may also become entitled to an AFM allowance of €21.50 every four weeks.

Successful applicants will be enlisted after end February 2011, and will be required to undergo a basic training course of 5 months maximum duration. Recruits may be discharged from Service should they fail to achieve required standards

The minimum tour of duty at ‘A’ (Airport Security) Company will be of a minimum of 3 years renewable, with the possibility of a posting to other AFM units, subject to the exigencies of the Service.

Those interested female individuals wishing to apply will sit for a competitive public examination with the Board of Local Public Examinations. Applicants must be Maltese citizens, eighteen (18) years of age and not more that twenty-five (25) years of age by 31 December 2010, of good moral character, and not less than the minimum height required, i.e. 1.52m and of acceptable weight in proportion to height.

Applicants must be in possession of a certificate in English, Maltese and Mathematics at a minimum of Grade E or Grade 7 at ‘O’ level MATSEC or GCE equivalent from an overseas university recognised by the Department of Education;
