The Ministry for Gozo said that large numbers of Maltese crossed over for the Carnival weekend in Gozo, generating extra business in what is normally thought as a quiet time of the year for the tourism industry.

As well as the attraction of the popular Nadur spontaneous Carnival, the Ministry said that crowds were also in the streets of Victoria as well as those of other villages on the island.

The Carnival activities for 2011 conclude tomorrow with a grand defile at 6.00 pm along Republic Street to Independence Square, in Victoria, following which at 6.30 pm there will be a spectacle of dance companies, floats and grotesque masks. The Nadur spontaneous Carnival also comes to an end on Tuesday evening.

The Regional Carnival in Gozo is organised annually by the National and Regional Celebrations Committee within the Ministry for Gozo, in collaboration with local councils in Gozo.
