In January, industrial production increased by 4.0 per cent from 92.4 points in January 2010. During this period, the production of intermediate goods, energy and consumer goods increased by 4.3, 0.9 and 7.7 per cent respectively. This was partly offset by a 4.3 per cent decline in the production of capital goods.

At the NACE division level, the manufacture of wearing apparel (NACE 14), printing and reproduction of recorded media (NACE 18) and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (NACE 33) fell by 36.8, 33.3 and 18.6 per cent respectively. On the other hand, the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (NACE 26) rose by 13.3 per cent. Other sectors that registered growth during the month were the manufacture of food products (NACE 10), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (NACE 35), other manufacturing (NACE 32), and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (NACE 22). These categories increased by 9.8, 0.8, 50.4 and 11.1 per cent respectively.
