The Easter 2011 programme of events around Gozo is now underway. Full details are shown below:

Friday 1st April :

19.15 Penitential procession through the main streets of Xewkija with the statue of Christ the Reedemer known as Ir-Redentur.

Saturday 2nd April :

19.30 Ghaliex Jien? – a musical about the passion of Christ written by Joe Chircop at the Astra Theatre, Victoria. (Interpreted in the Maltese language)

Friday 8th April:

20.00 Regina Martyrum – a concert of Marian musical excerpts for choir and soloists interpreted by Chorus Urbanus choir in the Church of St James, Victoria. Organised by the Culture Office of the Ministry for Gozo.

Saturday 9th April:

19.00 L-Imsallab fi Triqatna – an itinerant pageant/ play depicting the passion of Christ which commences in St. Francis and St Augustine Squares and moves along the main streets and squares of Victoria (Interpreted in the Maltese language).

20.00 Bin il-Bniedem – an open air pageant / play depiciting the passion of Christ in Independence Square, Ghajnsielem. (Interpreted in the Maltese language).

20.00 Choral Sacred Music Concert by the King’s Choir of London at the Kerëem Parish Church. Organised by Kerëem Local Council and the Culture Office of the Ministry for Gozo.

Sunday 10th April:

18.30 “Gozo International Celebration” – The Easter edition of this inter-religious celebration of song, culture and praise held in the Qala Parish Church.

Thursday 14th April:

19.00 Penitential procession through the main streets of Fontana with the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Friday 15th April:

17.30 (onwards) Penitential processions with the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows along the main streets of Gharb, Ghasri, Ghajnsielem, Kerëem, Munxar, Nadur, Qala, Sannat, San Lawrenz, Xaghra and sebbua. 18.30 Pontifical High Mass by H.L. Bishop Mario Grech in Independence Square, Victoria followed by a penitential procession with the devout statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, along the main streets of Victoria.

19.30 Procession of passion statues and biblical pageantry in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows, commencing from the Parish Church and proceeding along the main streets of Xewkija. The local Prekursur Band will participate. (In the eventuality of adverse weather this activity will be held the following day at the same time)

Saturday 16th April

19.30 Concerts of funerary musical excerpts by the La Stella Band at St. George’s Basilica, Victoria.

Sunday 17th April

18.00 Procession of miniature passion statues and biblical pageantry commencing from the Nativity of Our Lady Basilica and proceeding along the main streets of Xaghra. Organised by the children and youth of the Xaghra Parish.

18.30 Diocesan aux flambeaux meditation of the way of the cross commencing from Ta’ Pinu National Sanctuary, and proceeding along the route of artistic marble passion statues on Ghammar Hill.

18.30 Concert of funerary musical excerpts by the Visitation Band of Gharb in the Parish Basilica of the same locality.

Monday 18th April

18.15 Penitential procession through the main streets of Kerëem with the statue of Christ the Redeemer known as Ir-Redentur. The procession ends in the church square of Santa Luëija hamlet.

19.00 Penitential procession through the main streets of Munxar with the statue of Christ the Redeemer known as Ir-Redentur.

19.00 Penitential procession through the main streets of Victoria between St.Francis Square and St.George’s Basilica, with the statue of Christ the Redeemer known as Ir-Redentur.

20.00 It-Tniebri (Darkness) – an evening of folklore and yesteryear traditions related to Holy Week along the alleys of the Gozo Citadel and ending at the Citadella Centre for Culture and Arts.

Tuesday 19th April

19.00 Procession of passion statues and biblical pageantry commencing from the Parish Church and proceeding along the main streets of Qala. The local Ite ad Josef Band will participate.

20.00 Aux Flambeaux medidative soiree of prayer and song in the presence of the passion statues. Cathedral Square, Gozo Citadel. Wednesday 20th April

18.00 Procession of passion statues through the main streets of Munxar

19.15 Concert of funerary musical excerpts by the St Joseph Band of Ghajnsielem at St. Anthony’s Church, Imgarr.

19.30 Penitential procession through the main streets of Gharb with the statue of Christ the Redeemer known as Ir-Redentur.

19.30 Penitential procession through the main streets of San Lawrenz with the statue of Christ the Redeemer known as Ir-Redentur.

Thursday 21st April :

18.30 Votive procession of passion statues commencing from St. George’s Basilica, through the main streets and squares of Victoria. The La Stella Band of Victoria and Konti Ruaaieru Band of Rabat, (Malta) will participate.

Friday 22nd April :

10.00 Biblical pageant reflecting on the mystries of Christ’s passion commencing for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church through the streets of Xlendi.

11.00 Public lecture on the biblical figure of Longinus – the Roman Centurion, by Prof. Giovanni Demenna (Abruzzo) at the Cittadella Centre of Culture and Arts (Delivered in the Italian language)

18.00 Procession of passion statues and biblical pageantry commencing from the Basilica of St. Peter & St. Paul and proceeding along the main streets of Nadur. The local Mnarja Band will participate.

18.00 Procession of passion statues and biblical pageantry commencing from the Basilica of Nativity of our Lady and proceeding along the main streets of Xaghra. The local Victory Band will participate.

18.00 Procession of passion statues and biblical pageantry commencing from the Santa Maria Parish Church and proceeding along the main streets of sebbua. The local Santa Marija Band will participate.

18.30 Procession of passion statues and biblical pageantry commencing from the Cathedral Church and proceeding along the main streets of Victoria. The Leone Band of Victoria and the Fgura Scout Group will participate.

Sunday 24th April :

08.30 Procession with the statue of the Risen Christ along the main streets of Xewkija. The local Prekursur Band will participate. 09.30 Procession with the statue of the Risen Christ along the main streets of Nadur. The local Mnarja Band will participate.
