Caritas Malta, in cooperation with Caritas France and Caritas Internationalis, has commenced a fund-raising initiative to assist refugees who are fleeing from the situation in Libya.
Hundreds of refugees are seeking an exit from Libyan borders with Egypt and Tunisia as well as from Niger and Algeria, in what is considered to be one of the biggest migration crises since the first Gulf War of 1990. Caritas is raising funds to offer vulnerable immigrants specific services including counselling, orientation and referals in collabaoration with UNHCR – the UN Refugee Agency – and other organisations active among these migrants.
The Church in Malta is appealaing to the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan population to help fleeing refugees by contributing towards this fund, which will be financing assistance to about 18,000 beneficiaries.
Donations may be handed in to Parish Priests in Malta and Gozo or written in cheques payable to the Caritas Libya Refugees Fund and posted to the Caritas Libya Refugees Fund, 5 Triq l-Iljun, Floriana FRN 1514, Malta.
