Melita announced that it has chosen the world-leading television Video on-demand aggregator, On Demand! Group (ODG) to launch the first Video on-demand services on Melita’s network later this summer.
Melita’s VOD launch will mark the extension of ODG’s reach to 18 platforms in 12 countries handling over 1 billion video on demand transactions per year in 9 different languages. Telecommunications giants such Virgin Media in the UK, Kabel Deustchland in Germany are amongst ODG’s VOD customers. The Video on-demand service will be available nationwide to all Melita subscribers having Melita’s interactive Netbox HD. The service will include a library of popular TV series, top comedy, drama, documentaries, kids programming, movies and music videos for subscribers to choose from whenever they want. Viewers will also have full control to pause, rewind, fast-forward or watch their favourite show as many times as they please, just like a DVD.
“TV viewing trends have changed drastically and will continue to change. Our subscribers are telling us that they want more control of what they watch and when they watch it on TV. Our Video on-demand service will satisfy this demand offering total freedom to watch what you want when you want,” said Ludolf Rasterhoff, Chief Operations Officer at Melita.
“Over the last two years ODG has formed close partnerships with more and more of Europe’s leading and innovative cable and IPTV service providers,” said Tony Kelly, Chief Executive Officer at ODG.
“We are very pleased to be working with Melita. This deal further demonstrates our premium content aggregation strategy that we have successfully developed in the U.K., German speaking countries, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Slovenia and now Malta to provide compelling TV-on-demand services, increased efficiencies, cost savings, programming and marketing expertise, and speed to market for multiple clients in multiple territories.” ODG is a subsidiary of global multi-screen video leader SeaChange International (Nasdaq: SEAC). SeaChange International will be providing a fully integrated solution of software, services and content to bring on-demand television to Melita, through the SeaChange Adrenalin video back office and SeaChange VOD Managed Services, as well as a premium content offering from SeaChange’s On Demand Group.
This month, Melita subscribers also started enjoying two interactive TV services: Facebook on TV and an app which allows subscribers to use their iPhones or Android smartphones as a TV remote control. The app is available to download from the App Store and Android Market respectively. Both services are free of charge and are available for all subscribers who already have the interactive Netbox, connected to Melita’s Internet service on the Entertainment Pac
