Travel and tourism operators have welcomed the decision by ALPA to call off the strike action previously planned for Saturday, the 16th of July 2011.
The Federated Association of Travel & Tourism Agents (FATTA) said that it “thanks all parties who may have facilitated or participated in the meeting between ALPA, the Government and Air Malta which seems to have been positive enough to encourage ALPA to reconsider their decision.”
FATTA stated that it “fully supports the commitment made by Government and Air Malta to renegotiate the fees it is paying to MIA and suppliers especially those providing outsourced services previously well serviced internally by the airline’s own staff. There may be entities that are thriving profitably and mainly by providing outsourced services to Air Malta. FATTA calls on Government and Air Malta management to revisit these contracts to determine the real efficiency of such outsourcing.”
