The Gozo Culture & Information Office are oganising an exhibition entitled ‘The Papal Corpus Christi Procession during the reign of Pope Gregory XVI’.’

The exhibition consists of illustrations and memorabilia related to this annual procession of splendour & grandeur, painted by artist, Salvatore Busuttil, between 1837 and 1839, by the Marco Besso Foundation in Rome.

This exhibition was also held at St Wilfrid’s Hall, Brompton Oratory, South Kensington in London, last September.

The Busuttil family has its roots in Zejtun where Michele (1762-1831), the first of the Busuttil artists, was born. The family later moved to Valletta but following Michele’s marriage to the Gozitan Maria Antonia Buhagiar, the family established firm roots in Gozo.

Maltese painter Salvatore Busuttil (1798-1854) was the son of the painter Michele Busuttil. He studied at the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome, where he established himself as an artist.

The venue for the exhibiton is St.John s Hall, at the Cittadella Centre for Culture & Arts in Victoria, from this Saturday, the 16th of July until Sunday, the 25th of September.

The opening hours are weekdays, 10am-4.00pm and weekends 11.00am to 3.00pm. Entrance is free.
