The Blood Bank has issued an urgent request for blood donors. The bank said that due to the substantial increase in the number of operations that are being carried out at Mater Dei Hospital there is now an urgent need for blood donations of all types.

Blood donation is sometimes taken for granted or ignored.

The more blood donors the better. When donating blood people are helping others and having the chance to help save lives.

The public is asked to donate blood as soon as possible at the Guardamangia centre which is open Monday to Sunday, from 8am until 6pm or at the Gozo General Hospital centre which is open Monday to Saturday from 8: 30am to 11: 30am.

It is important for donors to present the identity card.
