It was a time of intense preparation and work for the Gozitan members of the Malta Aquarist Society in the build-up to their 8th Annual Show, which was held recently in the main hall of the old Ninu Cremona Lyceum. The show was officially opened by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono.

This year a total of twenty one aquariums were on display. There were quite a variety of fish of different sizes ranging from the large Butterfly Koi to a small Harlequin tetra.

Each exhibitor took great care in providing the perfect setup for the type of fish on display, with a planted tank for Angelfish, Tetras or Barbs and a rocky setup for the Tanganyika Cichlids. This ensured that the fish were displayed in their natural habitat, offering a more pleasant experience to the public attending the show.

The fish which impressed the judges most were the Discus owned by Charles Pisani. Second came the Butterfly Koi owned by George Scerri, followed by Leon Muscat’s Tanganika Cichlids.

The Malta Aquarist Society said that it would like to thank all the main sponsors namely Tarkus, BOV, Solar Engineering Ltd. agents for Purepro equipment, G&R Supermarket and Tropical.

The next show to held by the Malta Aquarist Society will be between the 8th and 16th of October 2011, at the Mount Carmel Hospital main hall in Malta.
