The Commissioner of Police and the Chief Electoral Commissioner have announced that by means of Legal Notice No. 1 of 2008, identity cards issued after January 2002 which expired or which shall expire during 2008 shall remain valid until the 31st of December, 2008.
Therefore, unless a Maltese citizen intends to use the I.D. Card as a travel document or any other person does not have any personal changes to report, the I.D. Card shall not be substituted.

can someone tell me are we as Maltese citizens or in my case dual national able to travel within the EU with ID cards only or do we also need a passport as well

In Gozo, the Order of Malta provides a wheelchair ambulance (PTS) on a 24 hour basis. Kindly contact us 00356 79 55 22 11. Other special transport services in Malta and Gozo, if the National Ambulance Service cannot make necessary arrangements, you can also contact the St John Ambulance, the ERRC Gozo, the Malta Red Cross Society, the EFRU and the St Lazarus Corps Special Rescue. Other organisations which may provide such a service can be the Catholic Action Movement SAS, Fondazzjoni Arka, Inspire and Dar Nazareth. Other private ambulance/disabled transport companies are, St James Hospital, Koperattiva tal-Minibuses, Medistar and FSG Ltd. Best wishes
