On the 1st October 2011 new legislation for the introduction of divorce came into force. To mark this event, a public debate on Act XIV of 2011 will be held at the University of Malta campus in Msida on the 12th October 2011 at 6.30pm.

There will be a panel of expert speakers debating practical, legal and sociological aspects of the legislation. The discussion will detail the drafting process leading to the new law and address issues such as the impact this new law will have on Maltese society and whether our courts are adequately equipped to deal with the changes to the law. The floor will be open for questions and anyone can join the discussion.

This debate is being organised by Family Law lecturer Dr Ruth Farrugia, in collaboration with the Law Students’ Society, and will be open to the general public.
