Just under 170,000 copies of the 2012 Dar tal-Providenza pocket Diary are currently on their way to every household in Malta and Gozo. In a period of two weeks volunteers from all walks of life gave a helping hand to pack these diaries in envelopes either at id-Dar tal-Providenza in Siggiewi or at their home. This pocket diary, the first edition of which was published in 1977, is much anticipated not only because of its size but mostly because it features the detailed time-table of all daily and Sunday Masses of all the churches in Malta and Gozo.
This time around, the Diary will feature a drawing by De La Salle College student, Keown Gatt, with the theme: “Ilkoll differenti, Ilkoll indaqs.”.The drawing was chosen from amongst a huge number of entries from Primary School students who participated in an Exhibition that took place last year at Id-Dar tal-Providenza to commemorate the 100th Anniversary from the birth of Mons. Mikiel Azzopardi, the Founder of the Home. For this occasion, Mrs Helen D’Amato, Commissioner for Children, together with Miss Gabrielle Galea presented a framed copy of the artwork and a set of books to Keown as an appreciation for his work.
Mrs D’Amato congratulated Keown Gatt for his contribution because he managed to use his talent in a positive way. She emphasized that all children have their own talent at their disposal and they can either use it to do good for themselves and for those around them or do harm to themselves and to those around them. She told Keown he should be very proud that his drawing fronting the Dar tal-Providenza Diary will be finding its way to every household in Malta and Gozo.
Whilst praising Keown for his artwork, the Director of the Home, Fr Martin Micallef encouraged all students to be always inclusive and be friendly to everyone including persons with disability treating them with the dignity they deserve and offering them the choices and opportunities that everyone has a right to enjoy. Then, we would all be truly equal though different. Fr Martin said that this Diary is in itself an occasion for Maltese families to show, as always, their generosity towards id-Dar tal-Providenza and if possible to make a donation by using the envelope supplied with the Diary. He thanked all the volunteers who helped in the packing of the diaries and the Maltese nation for its generosity.
The presentation ceremony was held at De La Salle College in Cottonera in the presence of Director, Bro. Martin Borg and Headmaster Mr Norbert Zahra. The sponsors of the Diary are Gasan Mamo Insurance and MSV Life.
