The stories covered in this weeks issue are:
1. Creation Day, which falls on October 4, feast of St Francis of Assisi, was marked with the blessing of pets at Vajringa primary school, Victoria and at the Franciscan Sisters school, also in Victoria.
2. On Sunday, October 9, the Capuchin Friars of Victoria celebrated the feast of St Francis of Assisi. The newly ordained priest Fr Carmel Aquilina OFM.Cap. led a concelebrated high Mass assisted by the Franciscan Capuchin Friars. In his homily, Fr Aquilina pointed out that St Francis was humble in spirit and manner, so much so, that he even shed off his clothing to deprive himself from all earthly belongings to live the perfect life that leads to heaven. Fr Aquilina said that St Francis set an example to all of us to get rid of our pride and be humble in the eyes of God.
The ceremony ended with the kissing of the reliquary of the Saint and the singing of the hymn to St Francis. The choir ‘Fjur t’Assisi’ participated in the ceremony.
After Mass, Fr Aquilina went out on the parvis and set free two white doves, the symbol of peace. Later, he blessed the various animals and pets that children brought from home to be blessed on this occasion.
