The Feast of St. Lucy will be celebrated in the village of Santa Lucija next Sunday, the11th of December, 2011.

Saint Lucy, the patron saint of the village is associated with lengthening days and more sunlight, the protector of light.

The following is the full programme for this annual event:

Friday, 9th December 2011

Following Mass, at 7.30pm Band march by the St. Gregory Band from 13th December Street to the Village Square.

Saturday, 10th December 2011 – Vigil of the Feast.

5.15 p.m.: Solemn Translation with the Relic of the Saint and Concelebration presided by Mons. Lawrence Sciberras. Antiphon and Eucharistic Benediction, & singing of the Popular Hymn.6.45 p.m. Festival of Light:

Procession of children dressed in white with a crown of candles on their heads around the square which is decorated by light, with a bonfire in the middle.

7.30 p.m. Band March by the St. Gregory Band along St. Lucy Street up to the Square.

Sunday, 11th December 2011 – Feast Day

9.00 a.m. Pontifical Concelebration presided by H.E. Mgr. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo.

4.45 p.m. Procession with the devoted statue of Sta. Lucija along the streets of the village. The Cittadina Leone Band will accompany the procession.

Tuesday, 13th December 2011 – Liturgical Feast of the Martyrdom of Sta. Lucija.

6.30 p.m. Concelebration presided by Mons. Girgor Grech. Antiphon and Eucharistic Benediction, & singing of the Popular Hymn.

On Sunday and Tuesday the church will be open during the whole day for those who wish to visit the church.
