Heritage Malta’s Chairman Mr Joseph Said inaugurated a display illustrating Maltese Christmas Traditions at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu. The inauguration of this exhibition was held on Wednesday the 21st of December and it includes traditional items focused especially on the Christmas season.

The greater part of the Maltese Christmas collection on display has been made available by Austin Galea who, on the occasion, officially presented the items to the museum. Austin Galea is a well established personality among local crib enthusiasts. Galea is a talented artisan, also a founding-member of the Ghaqda Hbieb tal-Presepju (Malta) and a keen enthusiast of Maltese Christmas traditions.

Among the artefacts that are currently on display at the Inquisitor’s Palace, the exhibition includes seven detailed dioramas which Austin Galea produced to represent local Christmas traditions and an audiovisual documenting Galea himself going through the traditional process of crib-making.

The Inquisitor’s Palace in Birgu is currently hosting the National Museum of Ethnography. The newly inaugurated permanent exhibition will be the last major addition to the museum for 2011. During this year, the Inquisitor’s Palace witnessed various restoration interventions, as well as the enhancement of the museum’s permanent displays and visitor experience. In this regards, a new visitor’s flow was launched with the aim of improving visitor’s accessibility and understanding of the site.

The Inquisitor’s Palace is open to the general public everyday from 09:00 till 17:00.
