MEPA said this afternoon that “with reference to a statement made this morning by Opposition Environment Spokesman the Leo Brincat about the incineration of imported animal waste at the Marsa Thermal Treatment Facility, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority can confirm that it was alerted to this issue a few days ago.
“The Authority immediately started to investigate the case and carried out a site inspection. The Authority’s investigations are currently ongoing and the public will be kept informed with the final outcome.”
Leo Brincat had asked at a press conference today “if it was true that animal carcasses imported from North Africa which may have been infected with foot-and-mouth disease were incinerated at Marsa. Information had also been received to say that it is possible that MEPA may have already known of the situation.”

Why do these carcasses travel all the way to Malta to be incinerated ? And : Who profits from this strange deal ? (Reminds us of nuclear -or other -waste dumped abroad, away from the countries which produce it)
