Following the approval by Parliament of Act No IV of 2012, which amends the Act whereby the MCESD was set up, a meeting was held on Monday the 9th July 2012 during which the GRC was formally constituted.

The Bill which subsequently became Act No IV of 2012, was submitted and piloted through Parliament by Chris Said, Minister for Justice, Dialogue and the Family and was given unanimous approval by the House on the 2nd May 2012.

The Gozo Regional Committee is composed of seventeen (17) delegates (and their substitutes) which were nominated (as stipulated in the Legal Notice) by the following Organisations:

The Gozo Business Chamber (2 delegates)

The Gozo Tourism Association (2 delegates)

The Local Council Gozo Region (3 delegates)

The Gozo Section of the General Workers Union (1delegate)

The Gozo Section of the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions (1 delegate)

The Gozo Section of the Union Haddiema Maqghudin (1 delegate)

The Gozo Section of the GRTU (1 delegate)

The Gozo Diocese (1 delegate)

The Ministry for Gozo (1delegate)

The Gozo University Group (1 delegate)

The Gozo NGO s Association (3 delegates).

During the meeting of the 9th July 2012 the delegates elected Mr. Michael Grech, the current President of the Gozo Business Chamber to serve as the first president of the Gozo Regional Committee.

In addition to his new position, Mr. Grech will also become a member (ex ufficio) of the MCESD. Mr. Joe Muscat of the Gozo Tourism Association was elected to serve as his substitute.

The GRC President (and his substitute) are expected to join the MCESD during the next meeting of this Organisation, which will be convening later this month.
