1. On Thursday, July the 12th, anyone crossing the channel between Malta and Gozo, could see the beautiful scene as two cruise liners, the Club Med 2 and the Seabourn Legend, anchored just outside Mgarr Harbour. These two ships had between them around 600 cruise passenger. This was not the first time that these cruise liners visited the island.

Tourists were welcomed by representative of the Ministry for Gozo and representatives from the Gozo Cultural Office, the Authority for tourism as well as the respective companies who had been coordinating with the port handling Operations. The Folk Group Imnarja of Nadur and the Menhir Qala Folk Group were also at the harbour to welcome the arriving tourists with folk dancing. All tourists were presented with a memento.

2. Joyce Farrugia has recently graduated with a Masters degree in Human Resource Management and Development run by the Centre for Labour Market Studies within the University of Leicester. This degree was carried out following the award of a sponsorship by the Centre for Development, Research and Training (Government’s training organization).

Ms Farrugia’s research project entitled “Motivation for Training and Development: An evaluation of what motivates Gozitan Public Servants to engage in training,” focused on helping those managers interested in finding alternative ways to motivate their employees to engage in training. “It is imperative in a rapidly changing world to be equipped with skills and knowledge. If trainees believe that training is going to be beneficial and job-related, motivation is enhanced.”

Ms Farrugia said that special thanks go to the Centre for Development, Research and Training (CDRT) for sponsoring her degree. Secondly, keen appreciation goes to family and friends whose help, advice and support were indispensable to finish this Masters degree.

3. The Zejtun born restorer, Manwel Zammit, is applying the finishing touches to the conservation and restoration work of the small cupola painting of Saint Lawrence at Xaghra, Gozo.

A day at Disneyland parks was also included in the programme.

The group had the opportunity to see the parade on the Champs Elysees on the 14th of July, where afterwards they visited the Embassy and were able to meet the Ambassador of Malta to France, Mr. Pierre Clive Agius.

The students were accompanied on the trip by French teachers Mr. Ivan Farrugia and Mr Arnaud Bouvier together with the school headmaster Fr. Emanuel Saliba and Fr Laurence Sciberras, Mr. Joseph Ciantar and Mrs. Angele Bouvier.

5. A group of youths from the Cathedral Parish recently visited the Islands of St. Paul, an activity known as al mare sotto le stelle, where apart from the various activities undertaken, Archpriest Mgr Joseph Attard and Parochial Vicar, Fr Michael Galea celebrated Mass for the occasion.
