Among the conclusions which have been agreed upon at the conference of the International Renewable Energy Summit, IRENA will set up the Network of Experts of Small Islands States. This Network will lead to the sharing of expertise and best practices through a network of experts and policy makers of small island states.

This network will assist states in exploring new technologies and opportunities that evolve with the latest developments of new technologies.

Addressing a press conference Minister for Resources and Rural Affairs George Pullicino said that this summit has been a highly successful one with more than 120 participants from more than 50 countries around the table of discussion, hailing from the Caribbean, Pacific, Atlantic, Europe, including 15 Ministers.

Mr Adnan Z. Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA, thanked the Minister for proposing to host this summit for IRENA last December and for all the preparations to organise this summit which was a milestone for IRENA as it brought together small island states from across the globe to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by island states.

Mr. Amin concluded that from the meetings he had with the Maltese delegation, the efforts being undertaken by Malta to increase its share of renewable energy are heading in the right direction bearing in mind the limitations of Malta.
