The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament (which brings together the leaders of the political groups) has declared the hearing of Commissioner-designate Tonio Borg now closed.
The statements of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) and of the Conference of Commitee Chairs on the hearing are expected to be published within 24 hours.
The Conference of Presidents has also set the date for the vote on Commissioner-designate for Wednesday 21 November at about midday.
The deadline for amendments (time in which groups of MEPs may submit a resolution on the topic) has been set for Tuesday at 9pm.
The European Parliament will play a key role in evaluating Tonio Borg before he can be appointed as the EU’s new commissioner for health and consumer protection. He was put forward for the post after his predecessor John Dalli resigned.
On 13 November Mr Borg was subjected to an intense grilling by members of the environment, public health and food safety committee aided by their colleagues from the agriculture and rural development committee and the internal market and consumer protection committee. The political groups vowed to hold Mr Borg to the highest standards.
