Caritas Malta Director Mgr. Victor Grech last week met with Mr. Martin Schultz, President of the European Parliament, in Brussels, together with European Citizen’s Prize Winners from 18 countries in the European Union.
The invitation to the European Parliament was made by the Chancellery of the European Citizens’ Prize. Certificates of the European Citizen’s Prize 2012 were presented to all the Prize Winners. An Exhibition was also set up depicting the achievements of Mgr. Grech and those of other Winners in areas including humanitarian aid, social services, medicine, architecture and art. Mgr. Grech also met with some Maltese and foreign MEPs.
This visit gave Mgr. Grech the opportunity to see at close quarters how the values on which the European Union was founded are being applied in Europe to ensure peace and democracy, solidarity, freedoms, the safeguarding of human rights, equality and social justice.
Mgr. Grech expressed his thanks for the hospitality he received during this visit, to the MEPs who nominated him, to the Office of the European Parliament in Malta, and to all those who congratulated him for being given this prestigious Award.
