Gozo celebrations for the Feast of St Lucy in Santa Lucija

Next Saturday and Sunday the village of Santa Lucija will be celebrating the Feast of Saint Lucy, Martyr.

The hamlet feast will feature band marches, firework displays and religious celebrations, which will include a procession with the Titular statue from the Church Square through the streets of the village on the Sunday evening, commencing at 4.45pm.On the Saturday, the Festival of Light, orgainsed by The Fondazzjoni Ta Klula will be held in the village. This traditional event will involve a number of young village girls, dressed in long white gowns with a wreath of lit candles on their heads, who will parade in the square where a large bonfire is also lit.

Santa Lucija buns are distributed to all those present and a brass band also participates in the celebrations.

A large variety of celebrations take place inside the beautiful little Church of Santa Lucija over the weekend and also around the streets of this very quaint Gozitan village.

After the Festa celebrations finally draw to a close, a large Crib is set up in an old mill room in readiness for the Christmas Celebrations.

The evening’s celebrations get underway at 7.00pm.
