Gozo International Seal of Training (GIST), founded in 2012, is based on the SEAL to excel. GIST ‘s mission is to retrace Gozo’s and Comino’s ancient, natural, and traditional roots/routes, will elucidate, illuminate, celebrate and publicise same; and will reposition the coast and golden fringe of Gozo’s archipelago in the heart of the Mediterranean, by facilitating international gateways.
The NGO set up a presentation in December at the Gozo University Campus, aimed towards farmers and landowners and this was delivered by dutch landscape architect Jos Willemsen and environmental educator Censu Caruana with the concept of ‘fringefarms’ for farmers in Gozo as an alternative means of income, and the concept of swales throughout the island to manage water more effectively.
The next presentation by GIST will be this Sunday, January the 13th starting at 10am, at the Gozo University Campus and is entitled ‘Gateways for Gozo; past, present and future,’ which will discuss the most vital asset for islands, which is the control of their gateways.
Dave Patterson will discuss how Gozo, which has ten twin towns in Italy, still has no direct exchange as there is no ferry or small plane from Gozo to Italy. Ryan Mercieca, President of GUG ( Gozo University Group) will also continue on this subject.
The presentation will end at noon followed by a free meal at Torri St Cecilia in Ghajnsielem.
