Recently, the Health and Safety Department at the Sir M. A. Refalo Centre for Further Studies in Victoria Gozo organised two educational talks, one for parents and staff and the other for students.
The Health and Safety teachers, Mr Andrew Dimech and Mr Charles Daniel Saliba, invited Ms Svetlana Camilleri and Ms Deborah Vassallo from Appogg agency to speak on Internet Safety.
The speakers addressed issues such as ‘netiquette,’ the way a person should behave on the internet, especially on social media networks like Facebook and Twitter. The speakers also addressed the dangers that many people, especially children or young adults, could encounter on these social networks, such as grooming, cyberbullying, sexting and child pornography. The speakers explained what safety precautions or actions should be taken in case of an abuse.
The next talk, which is on Substance Abuse, is to be held in January and will be organised with the collaboration of Ms Pamela Aquilina, the anti-substance abuse teacher on Gozo and the Malta Police Force.
