Gozo Arbor Day will be celebrated at Gozo College Zebbug Primary this coming Tuesday, the 29th of January.

With the participation of all staff members, children, the School Council, the community and other stakeholders, the EkoSkola Committee, which is mostly formed by children elected by their schoolmates earlier in the scholastic year are preparing to celebrate the Gozo Arbor Day, locally known in Maltese as ‘Jum is-Sigar f’Ghawdex.’

The children have, during this month, been actively involved in the literacy theme of the month. which is trees, benefits and the joy of outdoor learning.

Three large gardens Gozo College Zebbug Primary have been cleared and cleaned and new trees are to be planted by the children. The three gardens are made up of citrus, a Palm and Olive orchard and one that focuses on Maltese trees and plants.

Half of the perimeter of the school will also be completed with new Olive trees.

Gozo College Zebbug Primary, said that it aims at empowering children to appreciate, learn outside the classroom and instill sustainable educational values in their mind and heart, which results in increasing their self-image, self-confidence and entrepreneurial skills.

The planting event will take place, weather permitting, on Tuesday, the 29th of January 2013, at 9.30am followed by a ‘Giving Tree’ theme children’s programme in the assembly hall. For the occasion all invited guests and children will be specially treated to local, fresh delicacies.

This event is being made possible with the support of the Ministry for Gozo, the Education Office, Zebbug Local Council, Hands-on Farming and project partners sponsorships – Ta’ Dirjanu, Gozo Cottage and Farmers Foods.
