Dr Raymond Bondin, Malta’s Ambassador and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, has been honoured by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta with the title of Cross of Commander ‘Pro Merito Melitensi’ during a special ceremony held at the offices of the French Association of the Order in Paris last week.

Ambassador Ugo Leone, a Fellow Ambassador of the Order to UNESCO, read the motives for the honour and the letter of the Grand Chancellor of the Order, Jean-Pierre Mazery, announcing the decision of the Grand Master of the Order to honour Dr Bondin with this prestigious title in the Order.

He also praised the work of Dr Bondin at UNESCO and in Malta and praised his collaboration with the Order

Dr Bondin was then presented with the insignia and the Diploma of this prestigious recognition by the Order of Malta. The head of the French Association of the Order and other French dignatories attended.

In his speech Raymond Bondin spoke about the historical and cultural links of the Order in Malta and the projects that have restored the impressive architecture and artistic artifacts left by the Order in Malta.

Dr Bondin was responsible for the historic cities of Malta, including Valletta, between 1987 and 2007.
