At around 3.00am this morning, George Scerri, the Maltese man who was kidnapped in Nigeria on the 23rd of May, was freed. He was reported to be safe and well.

Mr Scerri, who is married to a Nigerian, was kidnapped together with a Pakistani man, just outside of Harcourt Harbour, where he worked at the oil installations.

Details regarding what led to his release are still not known, but at the beginning of this month a delegation from the Foreign Affairs Ministry flew to Nigeria to follow up his case.
