The Malta Environment and Planning Authority Board (MEPA) has today revoked the outline development permit for the construction of an open-air entertainment complex in Mistra Bay, Malta.

The permit was revoked using Article 39A of the Development Planning Act because assessments in terms of the Habitats Directive had failed to be carried out.

The controversial permit, caused great controversy before, during and after the general election, due to allegations of serious irregularities.

In a brief statement, MEPA said, “The outline permit for the development of an open air entertainment area in Mistra Valley has today been revoked by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority in accordance Article 39A of the Development Planning Act.

Given that the granted development outline permit falls within a Natura 2000 site, the board decided that there exists an error on the face of the record since no appropriate assessment was carried out prior to the approval of the outline permit in accordance with the provisions of the Flora, Fauna and Natural Habitats Protection Regulations (L.N.311/06).

The applicant did not contest this decision.”
