GO recently pledged its support to Competitive Malta – the foundation for National Competitiveness – during a creative thinking workshop for enhanced national competitiveness chaired by Dr Edward de Bono. Corporate leaders, academics, public officials and members of parliament were amongst those attending the workshop.

The event was supported by AX Group and held at the Palace Hotel in Sliema. Dr de Bono utilised his creative thinking techniques to stir a discussion that centred on how Malta could harness its strengths so as to garner a stronger competitive advantage. He also illustrated how his creative techniques were implemented at a corporate level as well as at a national level in Singapore and Finland. The event was inaugurated by Hon. Minister Tonio Fenech, Minister for Finance, the Economy and Investment. The Minister highlighted the importance of making the best use of our creative abilities in order to enhance national competitiveness. “As our economy evolves into a fully-fledged services-based economy, creativity and innovation will be the essential tools for job generation in decades to come.”

Minister Fenech highlighted that it is Government’s belief that success in the future will be determined by our national inclination to be creative, to generate new ideas, design new products and deliver sophisticated services in all sectors of the economy, particularly in tourism, financial services and ICT.

Other guests included Opposition Shadow Minister, Hon. Leo Brincat, Valletta Mayor, Dr. Paul Borg Olivier and the President of Finance Malta, Mr. Joe Zammit Tabona.

Meanwhile, GO reiterated its support for the work being done by Competitive Malta by teaming up with Bank of Valletta as the Foundation’s main sponsor. GO CEO, Mr. David Kay, said that his company’s support for Competitive Malta is in line with its policy to encourage innovative thinking and research on issues that can make Malta an outstanding location for business.

“GO is at the forefront of promoting innovation and research in business. And this is manifested in the way we provide businesses with the best level of customer support, dedicated account handlers, cutting edge technology, super fast data and broadband connectivity – both wired and wireless – as well as customised business solutions,” Mr Kay said.

Competitive Malta is a not-for-profit foundation set-up by a group of business leaders to research and elevate nation competitiveness to the forefront of national debate. Further information is available on www.competitivemalta.com
