Malta’s own musical talents in the world of pop, Chiara and former Swedish pop idol winner Kevin Borg will front-line Gozo’s 6th edition of Leone Goes Pop – the open-air pop concert featuring the 90-piece Leone Band – Gozo’s first civic wind band established 150 years ago.

Leone Goes Pop is an established musical appointment in Gozo, drawing large crowds at each performance. The first five editions saw the participation of locally renowned singers and artists like Mario Caruana, Pamela Bezzina, Neville Refalo, Nadine Axisa, Thea Garrett and Deborah C, together with last year’s special appearance of Ivan Grech and Melvin Caruana frontman and guitarist of Winter Moods.

This year to maintain the spirit of the band’s 150th anniversary celebrations, the Leone Band said that it has managed to secure two of Malta’s finest musical exports – Chiara, three times Maltese Eurosong representative and Kevin Borg, the 2008 Swedish Pop Idol and this year’s Maltese Eurosong runner-up. Borg will be coming all the way from Sweden for the 6th edition of Leone Goes Pop which is set to take place in Victoria’s main square it-Tokk on Saturday, the 15th of June, starting at 9pm.

With this sixth edition, the Leone will ‘Pop for a Jubilee.’ The audience will be invited to join in the celebration mood with the immortal tunes of Abba, Beatles, Zucchero, Neil Diamond, Tom Jones, Kool and the Gang, Pet Shop Boys, Elton John and Sinead O’Connor to name but a few.

Leone Goes Pop will this year be hosted by TV personality Valerie Vella while resident conductor Colin Attard leads the band.

Seating is free on a first-come-first-served basis.
