Tenor Joseph Calleja will be performing in Malta during the eagerly anticipated annual summer concert on the 1st August at The Granaries in Floriana.

The popular Italian singer Zucchero and Rebecca Ferguson will accompany the Maltese Tenor on stage together with Gianluca Bezzina and internationally renowned DJ duo Tenishia.

Following an agreement between the Malta Tourism Authority and NnG Promotions, there will be no standing tickets as the whole of the standing area will be free of charge. This novel idea will bring the Maltese’s Tenor’s voice within everybody’s reach. There will be seated tickets as usual in front of the stage.

Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said that the government was glad the MTA had struck this deal with NnG Promotions so that this year there will not be any charge for standing tickets. He said he was sure this would not only draw Maltese crowds but would also entice a lot of tourists. Details of the event were announced by NnG Promotions, Tenor Joseph Calleja and the Minister of Tourism Karmenu Vella during a press conference held today at the Xara Lodge l/o Rabat.

The concert will also include the participation of the Joseph Calleja BOV Children’s Choir and the National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Mro Steve Mercurio.

Joseph Calleja’s annual summer concert in Malta has become a fixed appointment on the Maltese cultural events calendar. With this agreement, classical music will become more accessible to the masses, something which Joseph Calleja has been striving to achieve since his first public concerts in Malta.

The Minister for Tourism said the Joseph Calleja Summer Concert is enjoyed by Maltese and foreigners alike and the government wanted to offer such a great opportunity to whoever wanted to join in the experience. Mr Vella said the concert greatly enriched the Maltese cultural calendar and helped in the promotion of tourism. Mr Vella praised the numerous achievements Joseph Calleja had overseas and the high regard in which he is held within international classical music circles making him one of Malta’s greatest ambassadors.

Joseph Calleja again expressed his eagerness to meet thousands of Maltese music lovers who year after year, fill the Granaries in Floriana with their incredible energy. “Everybody knows that my Malta Summer concert is the highlight of my season. I always say that it is an honour for me to perform at home. This year’s concert will once again offer a fantastic repertoire with a range of well-known arias and popular songs that will definitely draw in the audience.” Joseph Calleja said.

John Cassar White, Chairman of Bank of Valletta said, “Bank of Valletta is proud to be the main sponsor of the 2013 edition of the Joseph Calleja concert – an annual concert that is now established as the highlight of the Maltese cultural calendar. We are pleased to be the sponsors of the Joseph Calleja BOV Children’s Choir that will be accompanying the artists during the concert. This is the first time that Bank of Valletta is supporting the Joseph Calleja annual concert and we hope that this will be the beginning of a long term and wide ranging collaboration between Joseph and the Bank as announced earlier this week. We are looking forward towards another memorable concert that will delight the thousands that are expected to attend”.

Mr. Balesh Sharma, CEO of Vodafone Malta said “It is a great honour for me that for another consecutive year Vodafone is showing its unconditional support to our world – class Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja. Our main aim is to make music accessible to everyone and it is a great satisfaction to see that this time round more people will have access to this concert. It is always a pleasure to see that the artists that Vodafone supports are making a name not only on the local scene but also abroad. Joseph Calleja is the main example of this but so are Tenishia with whom we have worked closely in the Raise Your Game event and also Gianluca Bezzina who we supported in this year’s Eurovision Song Festival.”

NnG Director Anton Attard said they were very happy to confirm the participation of popular Italian singer Zucchero and Rebecca Ferguson in Calleja’s annual summer concert in Malta. Both are international stars, one a very well established star who has already drawn the crowds in Malta, and the other a rising star. “With the help of our sponsors, we are here again and we are sure it will be a magical experience as it has always been so far,” Mr Attard said.

Mr Attard , said financial support provided by sponsors is ensuring that the concert maintains the same pricing structure as in previous years, making this event as accessible as possible to everyone willing to experience the artistic qualities of Malta’s biggest success story.

NNG Promotions have once again contracted renowned maestro Steven Mercurio to direct the National Orchestra of Malta. The concert is supported by Bank of Valletta, Vodafone, Gasan Mamo and Allied Newspapers.
