MEPA to formulate a policy for development of solar farms

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) said that it has been requested by the Government to formulate a policy, for the development of solar farms, under the Environment and Development Planning Act.
Prior to the formulation of this policy, the Authority is publishing a proposed objective which will serve to guide the drafting of this policy.
The proposed objective is:
to establish a policy framework which shall define a solar farm, provide guidance for the location of new solar farms with a priority, but not exclusively, for large scale roof tops, for land already committed to industrial development and for quarries; and to identify potential impacts to be addressed
Individuals and organisations are being invited to send their submissions on this objective. Representations are to be made in writing to the:
Director of Planning, Solar Farm Policy MEPA , St. Francis Ravelin, Floriana
or through e-mail: solarfarmpolicy@mepa.org.mt
Submissions are to be received by the Authority by not later than 14th October 2013.
