GUG writes to PM calling for equal treatment on students travel schemesThe Gozo University Group has sent an official letter to the Prime Minister, calling for equal treatment in the reimbursement schemes for all students travelling between the islands for educational purposes.

“Provided that compensation given to such students remains appropriate and does not have a discriminatory effect on others in similar situations, we approve of the arrangement” says GUG.

“At the moment Gozitan students are getting an accommodation grant for their accommodation expenses while it seems that Maltese students studying in Gozo will be having free transport from their locality, free ferry and free lunch. Gozitan students are still lobbying for a change in the public transport and living expenses (such as internet) are not being compensated.”

The GUG concluded by saying that it stresses however that “inter-island commuting should not be limited to one direction only. Therefore, we consider this incentive to be a significant step in reducing Gozo’s double insularity and furthering the development of Gozo’s potential.”
