The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) said in a statement today that “it has learnt from the media that the tablets’ pilot project will start next January without any consultation.”

“In view of this,” the MUT said, “and since the Union does not have information on this project and its implications on educators, students and on work load, the MUT is directing its members not to participate in it until there is an agreement about it.”

The Union added, “the reason for this is to avoid creating a precedent without any agreement about practices that might be of detriment to the rest of the educators.”

“With regards to sabbatical leave,” the Union said, “while the MUT appreciates the Government’s promise, the Union has no details whatsoever about this measure on how it is going to be implemented. Meanwhile the Union shall be suggesting its proposals in the coming weeks.”
