The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority said that it has been advised of a serious risk posed by a baby monitor. The product in question is the Angelcare Movement and Sound Baby Monitor.
The MCCAA warned that the hazard posed by this product is attributed to the cord attached to the baby monitor’s sensor pad which is placed under the crib mattress. This poses a strangulation risk if the child pulls the cord into the crib and it becomes wrapped around the neck.
In view of this risk consumers are strongly recommended to refrain from using the said product.
Angelcare has already issued a kit to mitigate this risk. The kit constitutes of a set of cord covers designed to hold the sensor’s cords in place and out of reach of the child. Consumers are also urged to make sure cords are placed out of reach of the child and closely follow correct instructions and warnings for installation as per user manual.
Consumers should leave their details with shops where the monitor was purchased – free kits will be supplied as soon as available. When using the product and installing the kit, consumers should follow instructions thoroughly and read the warnings provided with the user manual.
