Following the release of the collective accommodation statistics compiled by the National Office of Statistics for the month November 2013, the Gozo Tourism Association in a statement this afternoon said that it, “notes the increases in tourist arrivals, both on national level, as well as the remarkable positive numbers achieved by the Gozitan tourism industy.”

Adding that the “the total tourist arrivals in Gozo during the month of November registered a very good increase of 49% over the figures registered for the same month of November in 2012.”

“In turn this increase positively affected the number of bednights spent by tourists on the island. The bednight figures in November 2013, increased to 15, 512, reflecting an increase of 32%, over November 2012 ,” the GTA said.

“These results augur well for better prospects in the Gozitan tourism industry,” the GTA continued, “since the destination is experiencing increases during the winter months, a period which tends to neutralise the positive results achieved during the shoulder and high season.”

The GTA pointed out that when taken cumulatively the above figures represent a net increase of 4,635 more arrivals staying in Hotels and Guesthouses on Gozo from January to November 2013. This represents an increase of 6.5 % when compared to same period last year, translating into 21, 649 bednights or 8% more nights spent in Gozitan hotels or guesthouses over the period January to November of the previous year.

“It has to be noted that these figures only relate to hotels and guesthouses registered in Gozo, and do not include arrivals or bednights in the self-catering sector, which covers the unique farmhouse product as well as the self-catering apartments,” the GTA said.

These increases were gained through the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved. The Gozo Tourism Association said that it “acknowledges the input by the Malta Tourism Authority and its management, which together with, The Ministry for Gozo and its Directorate for Toursim and Economic Development and the GTA, were instrumental in these positive results.”

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by saying that it “believes that this year’s current performance augurs well for better prospects in the tourism sector on Gozo. Through the collaboration and synergized efforts of all concerned, as well as sound decisions taken at the right time, Gozo’s unique potential can be better maximised for the benefit of this important industry on the island.”
