During a press conference earlier today, the Ministry for Education and Employment launched the ‘Guidelines on Sexuality and Relationships Education in Maltese schools’ with the aim of further helping educators address the sensitive issue of sexual and relationships education.
These guidelines have been published to offer all teachers, in both the Primary and the Secondary Sector, a structured framework to assist them in the development and delivery of effective and comprehensive sexuality and relationships education.
The Ministry said that the guidelines offer teachers and senior management school staff a clear direction when interpreting the sexuality and relationships curriculum programme.
“It aims to guide teachers on how to deal with related issues that might arise in class and how they use their professional judgement to use different resources for effective teaching of the subject.”
Copies of the guidelines, which include amongst other things, the objectives and the principles guiding the implementation of sexuality and relationships education, will be distributed in schools to different stakeholders as well as published on the Ministry’s website.
