“Political satire and costumes from the famed Notting Hill Carnival will feature in Carnival 2014 in Victoria Gozo.”

The Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo announced the details for the Gozo Regional Carnival 2014, saying that this is the latest in a series of measures to increase trade and business on the island during the winter months.

The Minister explained that the vision for the Gozo Carnival is that while continuing to enhance the spontaneous carnival, which is synonymous with youth, the Ministry also wanted to offer a range of activities targeted at the whole family.

He added that many months of hard work had gone into revitalising this popular event, and this year a new breath of life will be found in Victoria’s Carnival activities, which after many years, will include, political satire and costumes from the famous Notting Hill Carnival in London.

Dr Refalo said that he wanted to see more chldren taking part in the Carnival events, and to this end the Ministry had this year doubled the financial assistance to schools to encourage more children to take part, this has led to seven schools confirming their participation in the Gozo Carnival.

“On Saturday evening, the1st of March, before the start of the Nadur Spontaneous Carninval, for the first time ever, a spectacular parade will be organised under the theme: ‘Gozo, Colors, Life and spectacle,’ it will be take place in Republic Street, Victoria, under the artistic direction of Felilx Busuttil,” Dr Refalo said.

The Minister for Gozo gave thanks to the “carnival enthusiasts and voluntary workers who work tirelessly throughout the year and to all the committees involved, both in Gozo and Malta who help the Gozo Regional Carnival Gozo continue to grow.”
