During a visit to the Gozo University Group activities on the University campus for the 3rd edition of ‘Gozo Week on Campus,’ Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, Prof. Arnold Cassola, said, “With regards to the problems of connectivity and mobility, AD is suggesting that rather than harping on pie in the sky projects such as the tunnel between Malta and Gozo, we should concentrate on affordable and immediately implementable projects, such as a high speed catamaran daily service between Mgarr and Valletta.
He added that “with regards to internal tourism and jobs, AD suggests that the successful initiative to promote weekend tourism to Gozo should be further expanded: certain holidays falling on weekdays could be moved to a Friday or Monday in order to create more long weekends. Passenger fares on Gozo Channel could then be subsidised.”
Prof Cassola said that “travelling on public transport in Gozo should be free on these weekends to encourage leaving one’s car at home.”
It does not make sense to build the new Gozo law courts in one of the few remaining open spaces in the centre of Rabat, thus contributing to increasing the already high traffic congestion there, when there is the whole MMU abandoned complex in Xewkija crying out to be developed,” Prof. Cassola concluded.
