Xewkija Tigers F.C. midfielder and ex-captain of the Malta National Team Gilbert Agius is the BOV GFA Player of the Month for February 2014. Agius was selected for this honour following his positive performances for Xewkija where he was one of the scorers in his team’s 3-0 victory over Victoria Hotspurs as fell as for his stellar play in their 2-1 defeat of reigning champions Nadur Youngsters that enabled them to rise to the top of the GFA First Division League.Agius is no stranger to personal awards in local football. Apart from 120 caps for the national team, where he scored 8 goals, he is the only player to have won the MFA Player of the Year three times for seasons 1996/97, 2000/01 u 2006/07.

This is not Agius’s first foray in Gozitan football. In the early years of his career, he had played in the highest division in Gozo for Victoria Hotspurs. Ironically, his debut was against Xewkija Tigers on the 20th October 1991.

Jack Thewma, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s Gozo Branch presented Agius with the BOV GFA Player of the Month award for February 2014. Gilbert chose to give the donation associated with this award to the Gozo Committee of Puttinu Cares.
