Whoever shoots protected species does not merit membership with the Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) and should not be permitted to hold a hunting licence, the FKNK said in a statment today

The FKNK stated that it “had received reports that last Sunday unidentified individual/s illegally shot protected bird species, namely white stork/s. FKNK would like to make it clear to members, that today, more than ever, whoever may commit such crimes, is unwelcome within its folds and has no place in a civilized country.”

It added, “these illegal acts, apart from being repulsive to the general public, are being used by the anti-hunting lobby against all licensed bona fide hunters and trappers who are thus being placed in one basket, besides undermining the efforts of the FKNK.”

Lino Farrugia, CEO of FKNK said that, “whilst the FKNK unreservedly condemns such illegalities, it simultaneously strongly appeals to its members, to report to the police, any illegal activity involving the targeting of protected bird species that they might witness.

“These individuals, who persist in defying law and justice, are, above all, tarnishing the name of the Maltese and Gozitan hunters and trappers, and are making it more and more difficult for the FKNK to work towards the safeguard and promotion of the traditional socio-cultural passions of hunting and trapping in a credible manner.”
