Final inspection and certification tests on Hagar Qim oil rigThe drilling of the Hagar Qim well to the south of Malta (Block 7 of Area 4) will be commencing in the coming weeks, The Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure announced today.

The well will be drilled to a minimum depth of 2,500m, as per contractual obligations between the Government of Malta and Phoenicia Energy Company Ltd and Melita Exploration Company Ltd.

The rig that will be used to drill this well is currently undergoing the final inspection and certification tests.

The Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure has said that such inspection work and any subsequent maintenance work will be completed in the coming weeks, before the rig moves to location to commence the drilling.

More details will be issued by the Ministry closer to the date of commencement of drilling operations.
